Community Correction:

On August 25, I wrote the following post:

No Animal Left Unfed wants to write, Thank You, to BR for buying 90 soft cans from my Amazon Wish List. Please know that this food is going directly to feed my Hartford colony and to the foster family for Tux, my latest rescue

This is so incredibly helpful. On behalf of my feline paws; Thanking You, kindly

Please know that I was wrong with the number of soft cans. BR graciously purchased 96 soft cans from my Amazon Wish List. I am so sorry for the mistake. Please know that my brain is just sometimes off and I miscounted. I am very very grateful for this support. As previously written, most will go to feed my Hartford colony and the rest will go to the foster family for Tux, my latest rescue

Again, my apologies; Thanking All, kindly

Trap, Neuter, Rescue (TNR) Project

No Animal Left Unfed Inc TNR Update:

About 3wks ago, I was able to have my 1st volunteer meeting. I am very happy to write that I have smart and mobile bodies to help me with my cat colonies and pet food distribution. Our priority is to remove the cats from my 3 separate colonies; hence Project TNR. There are about 25 cats that span Hartford and Bloomfield. Most are fine; however, there are some that are in really bad shape; hence Project TNR. This past weekend, I opened an account with CT Vet Center in West Hartford, CT. The prices aren't as high as I thought; however, I will need help with some of the billing for my colony cats

So, our priorities are TNR, fundraising and placement. Please forgive some of the previous order; it can be arranged to reflect fundraising, TNR and placement. It is a work in progress. We are going to rescue one of the kitties this weekend. Desperately, we need fosters to help with transition until placement is found. If there is anyone who can foster responsibly; please call 860-816-0525 or email: noanimalleftunfed@hotmail.com

More importantly, if there is person or organization who can impart expertise and/or solid advisement; please call or email. We need the help

Thanking You, kindly

Pet Shop Bill

Some good news to report from Connecticut Votes for Animals !

This session's pet shop bill is now official!

We are pleased to report that Governor Malloy signed Public Act 14-77 (SB 445) today, thereby passing the pet shop bill into law that will be effective as of October 1, 2014. A detailed summary of the new law's provisions is available on our Web site

This law stands among the strongest state-level pet shop legislation in the country. Among its provisions, it will require that all dogs and cats sold in pet shops must originate from breeders who are USDA licensed, and have no direct violations of the Animal Welfare Act, nor more than 2 indirect violations within the past two years. The 2012 data on breeders supplying Connecticut pet shops reveals a significant number of unlicensed breeders, and breeders with multiple violations. Under the restrictions of this new law, up to 80% of the breeders used in 2012 would be eliminated from the supply chain into Connecticut as of October 1!

But what about the other 20% of breeders supplying pet shops? They are still likely puppy mills. It is important to remember that even USDA-licensed breeders with "clean" inspection reports can be puppy mills because the federal regulations governing these breeders outline survival standards, not humane standards

Further, public hearing testimony repeatedly confirmed that reputable, responsible breeders will not sell through pet shops. We always encourage adoption as your first option! But if you must find a puppy through a breeder, it is always better to visit a local breeder directly and in person - not through a pet shop

Once again, I'd like to express our gratitude to Rep. Brenda Kupchick, whose tireless advocacy made all the difference!

Sincerely,
Amy Harrell, President, CVA
